LOUIS VUITTON MONOGRAM MACASSAR

Louis Vuitton has unveiled a new line of men’s bags that brings a certain level of permanence to their male customer base. The “Monogram Macassar” is surprisingly the first permanent Monogram line dedicated to men. We say it’s about time. The “monogrammed” mens market has clearly exploded with the rise of Vuitton as a statement in street fashion – if not a staple.

The “Monogram Macassar” is inspired by the hazel-brown and black striped Macassar Ebony Wood. The monogram canvas is paired with black matte leather and “shiny palladium hardware” all of which is dinstinctly Vuitton. Gentleman hungry for their shot at Vuitton goodness may choose from a variety of models including the “Neo Greenwich,” “Keepall 55″ holdall weekender, ad our favorite, the “Steamer Bag” which is clearly the iconic look with it’s spacious interior, padlock closure, and scratch resistant canvas.

The Louis Vuitton “Monogram Macassr” line does not come cheap though. Expect to spend some dosh. The “Monogram Macassar” line ranges from $1000US – $4040 – fair game for some baggage which should last for generations.

EVEN CHINA THINKS THE USA IS INNOVATIVE

From a poll done by Newsweek & Intel, apparently we find ourselves less innovative then the Chinese do.  LINK

CORE JEWELS COLLEGE RING

Totally obsessed with Core Jewels from Japan. Overflowing with a dark and balanced aesthetic combine the ample use of black metal with solid black crystal, Core Jewels releases their own take on the popular college ring. Decked out in a matte silver finish, the ring features a multi-faceted black stone with engravings throughout. Simple and sophisticated. ILL WEBSITE

TYLER RIGGS MENS IN H&M SPRING 2010

I've heard a lot of talk about H&M stepping up the mens offerings...especially following Matthew Williamson's amazing collection earlier this year (I have 5 pieces). Here’s a first & complete look at Tyler Riggs in H&M collection for Spring 2010. The lookbook shots are crisp and sophisicated. “Featuring Tyler Riggs styled by Robert Rydberg and photographed by Peter Gehrke, H&M presents a varied collection that encompasses several trends recently seen on the runway. From skirts to harem pants and fringe, H&M offers an excellent snapshot of next season’s riskier pieces.”

ALLSAINTS HITS USA

One of my first visits to London when I worked for Ben Sherman was to a competitor named AllSaints (LINK). God forbid if I would have bought something at the time, but I was blown away by the forward thinking brand even back then. What was a bit too edgy at the time I first saw it, has matured into a wardrobe fit for young Creatives. Clothing for the intelligent and sophisticated.

The brand is launching aggressively in the USA on that path to opening 10 stores within 2010 (WWD) and opened their first outpost this Thursday on Robertson Ave in West Hollywood. I was lucky enough to visit the store three days before it's completion for a sneak peak and then again for the opening day.

Formerly the Agnes B store on trendy Robertson, the store has a large warehouse feeling with distressed exposed brick walls, vintage machinery cum shelves, and a decadent amount of studio lighting hanging from the space. One of my favorite features is the sewing machine curtains that cover each window, they provide a unique backdrop for space that reeks of substance.
The clothing is a mid-priced selection of on trend pieces like weathered denim and worn in footwear, mixed with key pieces like plaid shirts, distressed leather jackets and warm thin sweaters for guys. Even guys who could never pull of their harem pants for men, will be able to find something here. It's merchandised well. There are a handful of the brand's famous graphic tees scattered about, but truly not enough to appreciate them. I found two dope graphics here. Hopefully they will work on bringing more as in LA t-shirt purchases are like water and this is one of signature successes in Europe.

I expect that once the LA audience discovers AllSaints the city will flood with their brand of gloomy smart chic. And, even while I was there Christian Audigier was shopping. Probably buying samples for next year's collection...

EVISU: SPRING 2010 COLLECTION: PREVIEW

Born out of Japan over a serious fascination with product, Evisu reached the international masses with strong global brand recognition. As a result of this success, the brand unsuccessfully juggled its roots with its new found glory, implementing the Kamome (seagull) at every opportunity – for better or worse. Thankfully, the Spring-Summer 2010 collection turns a new page in the Evisu story with the recent appointment of Scott Morrison as creative director and CEO. Scott not only brings to the table an exceptional eye for high quality product and washing techniques but also a small team of loyal staff that helped build his two previous brands. One of them is Miguel Hurtado, who is playing a vital role in the re-branding of Evisu. Taking the brand back to its product focused roots was the mandate, so with the first shoot of Morrison’s newly washed jeans, Hurtado literally washed some of the branding along with it. You get a real back to basics feel when viewing the shoot. All of photos are in black and white and were shot under the Williamsburg Bridge in NYC giving the shoot have a classic feel. The first drop of the new look Evisu teams products start to arrive around the middle of Jan in stores. Be sure to check them out.
